Drobo, storage robot

Drobo

James sent me this link to a cool new hard drive enclosure, called Drobo, that takes enterprise-level raid and makes it available at at a consumer level.

You can hot-swap up to 4 drives and the “robot” knows how to move data around to give you full capacity, on the fly, without shutdown. Watch their video to believe. Expensive though, at USD699 for just the enclosure alone.

It’s only accessible via USB2 though. For such an expensive disk enclosure, i expect it to have at least a gigabit ethernet port and a couple of firewire ports.
